From the liner notes:
Although this is his debut album, Richard is hardly a newcomer to the music world. Since the early sixties he has used one or more of his talents as a vocalist, instrumentalist, producer, engineer, composer, or arranger to help numerous other musicians record or perform their works. The list of credits even include national awards for commercial soundtracks he produced for the broadcast industry in the seventies.
A native of Atlanta, Georgia, Richard and his wife Ruthanne, both having ancestry deeply rooted in the Highlands of Scotland, have been actively involved in the Scottish/Celtic community for a number of years. It was this involvement, with particular reference to the annual Stone Mountain Highland Games and Scottish Festival in Atlanta, that inspired him to produce this album. "I had noticed over the years that when the Stone Mountain Highland Games came up in conversation, the first response people gave, including myself, was 'I'll Be There!". The words seemed so inadequate to express how I really felt about a celebration of my heritage that I decided to respond in music, the only language I know of that has no boundaries and surpasses both words and pictures."
Thanks to Rex Garrett, long time friend and sound entrepreneur, "I'll Be There" was introduced to the public through the main sound system at the year 2000 event. The response was incredible! Richard made the commitment at that time to make that song along with several others available on CD by the year 2001 event in October which was the birth of this album. "I composed 'Scots on the Rock' for the combined Pipes, Drums and Military bands to perform in honor of the anxiously anticipated return of the glorious Tattoo at the Stone Mountain Games. 'Until Next Year' was composed to reflect the feelings I (and perhaps many others) have every year after the crowds have gone home, the celebration is over, and the last tent pole slides into storage"
